Global Search

Global Search lets you find anything in Taskvault in under a second. Open it from any page, type a few characters, and jump directly to a todo, project, milestone, event, or subtask without navigating through menus.

At a glance

  • Opens from any page with a keyboard shortcut
  • Searches todos, projects, milestones, calendar events, and subtasks simultaneously
  • Results update in real time as you type — no need to press Enter
  • Click any result to navigate directly to it

Opening the search modal

Press Cmd+K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux to open the search modal from anywhere in the app. You can also click the search icon in the top navigation bar.

💡 Tip

The shortcut works even when focus is inside a text field — Taskvault intercepts it before the browser does.

What gets searched

  • Todos — matched by title. Results show the todo status and the project it belongs to.
  • Projects — matched by project name.
  • Milestones — matched by milestone name and the parent project.
  • Calendar events — matched by event title and date.
  • Subtasks — matched by subtask title, shown alongside the parent todo.

Using search results

  1. 1

    Open the modal

Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux). The modal appears over the current page.

  2. 2

    Type your query

Start typing immediately — the input is auto-focused. Results appear below as you type, grouped by type (Todos, Projects, Milestones, etc.).

  3. 3

    Navigate results

Use the arrow keys to move between results. The highlighted result is previewed on the right (desktop) or shown inline (mobile).

  4. 4

    Jump to the item

Press Enter or click a result to navigate. The modal closes and you land directly on the item — todo detail, project page, milestone, or event.

Search tips

  • Search is fuzzy — partial matches work. Typing "onb" will find "Onboarding Checklist".
  • Results are scoped to projects you are a member of — you will not see todos from projects you have not joined.
  • Archived projects and their todos do not appear in search results.

ℹ️ Note

Global search queries your live data on every keystroke. On very large workspaces with thousands of todos, there may be a brief debounce delay of around 200ms before results update.
